Advent 11/29/20 1 Peter 1:1-9
In this first letter Peter states some of the truths we must know in order to live lives pleasing to God and effectual for the gospel. These truths change everything if we believe them and if we therefore show our thankfulness for them.
Summarizing Peter’s list: We have been born again to a living hope;
We have obtained an inheritance that is imperishable, reserved for us in heaven; We are protected by the power of God; The proof of our faith is more precious than gold which is perishable; We love God and believe in Him, having obtained salvation;
For just these we are to be thankful indeed! But then as he writes his second letter, he starts by putting plainly, what we should have concluded from the first letter (in case we didn’t).
“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.”
By God’s divine power we have been given everything pertaining to life and godliness. Through the true knowledge of Him and His promises we are set. We need nothing else to what God has called us to do. And for that we should be thankful daily. Hour by hour. Minute by minute. Every second of the day and with every breath we take.
This thankfulness changes everything!
