Moses’ Fearless Faith

8/2/20 Hebrews 11:23-29 #23 Jesus > Everything Summer bio series

This Moses guy, while having some flaws, was actually quite some guy. Quite some leader. Quite some follower. Perfect in all his ways? Of course not. But He is a scary example.

He showed such bravery at the right times. He was a busy guy but never seemed to be in a hurry. He a lot of people who wanted his attention and leadership but still figured out how to do what was needed (with a little help form his friends). He did not act entitled when he could have. He did not fear the king when he could have. He did not sin when he could have. He did not fear the wrath of the king when he should have! He initiated a new and enduring rite of safe passage in the Passover and passed through the Red Sea as the wall of water was held back by the unseen Hand.

But he also saw Him who was unseen. This must have been the game changer. This and hearing God’s audible voice like he was listening to a podcast - but at regular speed.

Moses, seeing God pass by, hearing God’s voice, seeing God’s hand do mighty, mighty works…. and he still lost his cool. I don’t know if this is good news for me or bad news?? This makes him scary. On the one hand, it’s comforting to know that in spite of these amazing revelations of God Himself, Moses still struggled. On the other hand, this Moses, after 80 years of looking ahead, was kept from going into the promised land we’ve been hearing all about. So if he can be disciplined in such a way, then I certainly can. He is a scary example. Which makes it all the more important for me to fear God – and actively put my faith in Him.
